Sketching From Different Angles

When sketching an object, either rotate it or change your view point from time to time. Details that are hard to see from one angle may be easily visible from another. You may also find that certain angles look better than others.

Changing the angle from which the subject is viewed will also keep you from relying too much on muscle memory. After sketching the same thing many times from the same angle, most people start keeping their eyes on the paper more and look at the subject less and less. At this point they’re drawing from memory. Neglecting to look at the subject will keep you from discovering anything new, but rotating the subject or moving to a different location will force you to start the exercises all over, observing and drawing the new details that will now be visible.
